The MXS64H is Marshalltown's 14" x 4" finishing trowel in Carbon steel with a traditional wood handle. Because Carbon steel is flexible and responsive, it gives direct feedback through the blade during skimming and finishing work. As a result, it remains the first choice for many experienced plasterers who want feel and control over a skim coat.

Carbon Steel vs Stainless Steel

Carbon steel is more flexible than stainless steel. For this reason, many plasterers prefer it for finishing passes where blade flex helps feather out the surface. However, spring steel requires more care between jobs. In particular, it should be cleaned and dried after use to prevent rust.
