WEEE Directive & vEMC Compliance Policy at Tool Source

At Tool Source, we are fully committed to protecting the environment and complying with Ireland’s Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) regulations. As a responsible retailer of electrical tools and equipment, we aim to support safe recycling practices and reduce the environmental impact of electrical waste.

What Is the WEEE Directive?

The WEEE Directive (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive) is an EU initiative that requires producers and retailers of electrical goods to take responsibility for the collection, treatment, and recycling of electrical and electronic waste. In Ireland, WEEE is regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and overseen by the WEEE Register Society.

What Is vEMC?

The visible Environmental Management Cost (vEMC) is a small charge included in the price of certain electrical products. This fee contributes to the safe recycling and environmentally responsible disposal of WEEE items. Included in the price of LED lights/bulbs is a contribution to recycling costs of €0.05.

Our WEEE Disposal Policy

Tool Source offers the following services to help our customers dispose of their electrical waste responsibly:

  • We will take back your WEEE on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis, free of charge at the time  of delivery or at our store in Castlemaine. Waste batteries are taken back in store on a one-for zero basis (i.e. no purchased required) as long as they are of equivalent type to that is sold by us.
  • WEEE and  waste batteries can also be returned to your local civic amenity site free of charge. The following link will  show you how to find the civic amenity site closest to you where you can recycle your WEEE, batteries and  light bulbs, https://www.weeeireland.ie/household-recycling/where-can-i-recycle/.
  • Never put WEEE, batteries or light bulbs in any of your bins.

Why It Matters

Improper disposal of electrical equipment poses serious risks to the environment and public health. Through our participation in the WEEE scheme and by clearly stating vEMC fees, we help ensure:

  • Reduction of harmful substances in landfill
  • Recovery and reuse of valuable raw materials
  • Safer disposal practices for consumers

Customer Responsibility

We encourage our customers to:

  • Return their old products when purchasing new ones
  • Bring small WEEE or batteries to local civic amenity sites if not returning through us
  • Avoid disposing of electrical goods in general household waste

If you have any questions about our WEEE policy or need to arrange a return, please contact our customer service team at info@toolsource.ie or call us on 087 9804668

Thank you for helping us build a cleaner, more sustainable Ireland.
