Choosing the Right Trowel Notch Size

A notched trowel's tooth size should match your tile size, larger tiles need a bigger notch to lay enough adhesive for full coverage, while smaller tiles or mosaics need a finer notch to avoid excess squeeze out. A tile levelling system, such as Ox Tools' wedge and spacer set, helps keep large format tiles flush and reduces lippage between tiles.

            Frequently Asked Questions

What notch size trowel should I use for large format tiles?

Larger tiles generally need a bigger notch, such as 10mm or 12mm, to ensure enough adhesive coverage, check your tile manufacturer's recommendation for the exact size.

What is a tile levelling system used for?

Keeping adjacent tiles flush with each other during laying, reducing lippage, particularly important on large format tiles.

What drill bit do I need to cut a hole in a tile?

A diamond tipped drill bit or hole saw, such as Bihui's diamond brazed range, is required, standard bits will not cut tile or ceramic cleanly.

Do you stock tile cutters as well as trowels?

Yes, including the Faithfull hand tile cutter for straight cuts on smaller tiling jobs.

What is a slate guillotine used for?

Cutting natural slate cleanly for roofing or tiling work, such as the Edma large slate guillotine.

Can you source a specific tiling brand or tool not listed?

Yes, tell us what you need and we will try to source it for you.
