What is bar and chain oil used for?
Bar and chain oil lubricates a chainsaw's guide bar and chain as they run. It reduces friction and heat, protects against wear and keeps the saw cutting cleanly.
Can I use engine oil instead of bar and chain oil?
It isn't recommended. Bar and chain oil contains a tackifier that helps it cling to the fast-moving chain, while ordinary engine oil flings off quickly and gives poorer protection.
