The MXS165SSD is Marshalltown's 16" x 5" finishing trowel in stainless steel with a DuraSoft handle. Because the blade is stainless steel, it resists rust and lime staining. As a result, it is a practical choice for Irish site conditions where damp air and lime-based renders would shorten the life of a carbon steel blade.

Who It Is For

The 16" x 5" blade suits experienced plasterers covering large flat walls at speed. In particular, the wide 5" blade gives more surface contact per pass than a narrower trowel. However, the larger size requires confident blade control. For this reason, many plasterers use a 16" trowel for opening up and a smaller trowel for edges and ceiling cuts.

Stainless Steel vs Carbon Steel

Stainless steel is stiffer than carbon steel. Because of this, it suits plasterers who prefer a firmer blade on the finishing pass. In addition, stainless steel needs less maintenance between jobs — no need to oil or dry the blade after use. For a more flexible blade in the same size, the MXS165D offers the same dimensions in carbon steel.
