Where It Is Used

External corner trowels work on plasterboard, sand and cement render, and thin-coat finishing systems. In particular, they suit window reveals, door frames, and wall returns where a clean external corner is required. Because the tool sets the angle precisely, it produces a straighter corner than hand-finishing with a flat trowel. For internal corners, Marshalltown also makes a matching internal corner trowel.

Corner Trowel vs Corner Bead

Corner beads protect and define the corner edge on plasterboard walls. However, the corner trowel finishes the plaster or compound over and around the bead cleanly. In addition, on render walls without bead, the corner trowel forms the corner profile directly. For this reason, it is a useful tool for both drylining and traditional plastering work.
