Choosing the Right Abrasive for the Job

Match the disc to the material, a metal cutting disc will not cut stone cleanly, and an inox rated disc is required for stainless steel to avoid contamination. Flap discs are the better choice for blending welds and finishing edges, where a standard grinding disc would remove too much material too quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a cutting disc and a grinding disc?

A cutting disc is thin and slices through material, a grinding disc is thicker and removes or smooths a surface, they are not interchangeable.

What disc should I use on stainless steel?

An inox rated disc, standard discs can contain contaminants that cause corrosion.

What is a flap disc used for?

Blending welds, removing rust and finishing edges, with a smoother result than a standard grinding disc.

Can the same abrasive be used on both metal and stone?

No, they require different disc compositions.

Do you stock sanding sheets for both wood and metal work?

Yes, suited to both wood finishing and metal preparation.

Can you source a specific abrasive product not listed?

Yes, tell us what you need and we will try to source it for you.
