The MXS77D is Marshalltown's 18" x 4½" finishing trowel in carbon steel with a DuraSoft handle. Who It Is For

The 18" blade suits experienced plasterers who work across large flat walls at speed. In particular, it performs well on open wall areas where coverage efficiency matters most. However, the larger blade size requires confident control. For this reason, many plasterers pair an 18" trowel with a smaller trowel for edges and ceiling cuts.

Carbon Steel vs Stainless Steel

Carbon steel gives more blade flex than stainless steel. Because of this, many plasterers prefer it for the finishing pass where a responsive blade helps feather out the surface. However, carbon steel needs more care between jobs. In particular, clean and dry the blade after use to prevent rust.
